Help suit up these little guys with their own courage capes

We are excited to partner with the Courage Capes Foundation and will now be adding Courage Capes to our Stay Strong Totes.  These Capes will be included in totes given  to the moms with the youngest pediatric inpatients.  We want these children to feel like the superheroes they are!

These children will also receive a Bear Buddy.  Of course, these brave little superheroes need capes of their own.

A cape for a Bear Buddy measures 2.5" x 2.5" and only takes a few minutes to make.  Please consider knitting some capes so we these little guys can be suited up before heading  out to stand by kids fighting critical illnesses.

US8 needles

2 strands of fingering weight yarn held together throughout project.  (one strand of dk weight works too, just make sure you get finished measurements of 2.5"x 2.5”).

Working from top of cape down.  Cast on 12 stitches allowing an extra 6” to become part of the tie when finished.  Knit 2 rows.

Row 1:  Knit first 2 stitches, Purl to last 2 stitches, Knit last 2 stitches.

Row 2:  Knit.  Continue these 2 rows until piece measures close to 2.5”.

Knit one more row, then bind off with this stretchy bind off (or any you find on YouTube tutorials).  Binding off in this manner causes a flared bottom edge of the cape that creates some shaping to the cape.

Knit first stitch, yarn over from front to back, bind off that yarn over stitch, knit and bind off next stitch as usual.  Yarn over from front to back, bind off yarn over stitch.   Knit and bind off next stitch.  Keep repeating until last stitch is bound off.   You will basically be adding a yarn over stitch and binding it off between each of your 12 regularly bound off stitches.  Cut yarn leaving another 6” tail and tie it on to the other corner of neck edge.  Finish off both ties by tying a knot on each end

We will gently wash and steam block each cape before attaching to bears.
